Pretty With The Lights Out

Too metal to be punk. Too punk to be metal.

Monster movies, drive-in slashers and terrible puns.

Re-igniting the flame

Pretty With The Lights Out is blowing out the pumpkin in Indianapolis and will re-ignite the flame in our new home in Phoenix, AZ.

Things are quiet while we dig new graves in the desert. I’ve been so far unsuccessful in convincing my cast to come with me, so I’ll be looking for some new talent in the area. Phoenix musicians, come say hi.

Now booking 2027 in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

Debut EP · March 10, 2023

Pumpkin Spice Formaldehyde

A hauntingly fast-paced EP racing you through pumpkin-carving clubs, the thrills and romance of the drive-in, and revenge, all culminating in a lovely stroll through Tolkien’s Middle-earth as you’re taken down to Goblin Town.

Whatever corner of horror appeals to you, there is something for everyone.

9/10

“A six-track EP that delivers on the promise of high-powered horror punk.”

The Jack-o’-Lantern Social Club

Love Halloween? Carving jack-o’-lanterns? You’ll love our little group.

It started as our first single in February 2022, a song for anyone who dresses in black and does the creepy things they do. Then it grew into the official Pretty With The Lights Out fan club, with member cards, embroidered patches and a spot on the guest list.

The membership kits have all but sold out, but the club never really closes. When the snow falls and there’s not a pumpkin left to be found, we carve them all and see you next fall.

Scoop pulp from the cranial bowl, add some spooky eyes, and you’ve won first prize. Print the Jack-o’-Lantern Social Club face and carve your own club-certified jack-o’-lantern.

Nate Laff playing an Explorer-style guitar on stage under purple light

Nate Laff (yep, pronounced like laugh) is

Pretty With The Lights Out

Pretty With The Lights Out is not a normal “band.” In the studio I do everything, including all production. On stage, a cast of hired guns brings the band feel and energy.

Pretty is not a band “trying to make it.” It’s a hobby for me, and a very expensive one at that. Monsters are my first love in the genre, especially the ones that don’t know or intend to be villains. I like puns, so songs generally start there. The debut EP Pumpkin Spice Formaldehyde arrived on March 10, 2023 via We Are Horror Records, and is now back as the Deluxe Cold Brew Edition with two bonus tracks.

Tools of the trade

Gear

Do I only play Orange amps because they look like pumpkins on stage? No, of course not. That would be silly. It’s because they sound great AND look like pumpkins on stage.

My guitars are more photogenic than I am.
